WE DID IT!!!!!!!
There are feelings associated with every significant accomplishment in life, and this was one of them.
The Cathedral, has lived in my imagination and has inspired me from the very beginning—when this journey was just a thought. After 5 miles it is suddenly right in front of us. No map to follow, no more yellow arrows. No miles left to count—-and no more stamps to scavenge. Just gratitude and awe.
This pilgrimage was a test. It revealed our weaknesses and reminded us that we are not as young as we once were. It challenged our bodies, our patience, and sometimes our resolve.
The Camino was a reminder that we are strong, and resilient. We were committed to moving forward one step at a time.
As I stood in the square, I thought about everyone who has been with me through this blog—the family and friends cheering us on from home, the fellow pilgrims we met along the way, and my walking companions. All provided encouragement at just the right time. What began as a ‘ohhh, I think I need to do this’ became a reality because of all those who provided encouragement. THANK YOU!
The destination is beyond words. It is something that photos can never capture accurately. However, I believe the true gift was the journey itself—the environment experienced, the friendship strengthened, the new friends found, the moments of reflection, and the realization that some crazy thoughts are worth the risk no matter what your age.
We came as new pilgrims on a quest for Santiago—-we knew only what we read or heard. We leave with memories that will last a lifetime.
