The Camino Begins

Just made it to the hotel—and my rolled ankle doesn’t like me….Sorgs are dealing with an injured old person.
12.5 miles…..Hotel to hotel…..29,000+ steps.

This is the reality after 6.5 hours of walking and some reminders of my age…

And by “made it,” I mean I dragged what’s left of myself across the finish line and immediately started questioning every life decision that led me here.

At some point today, this stopped being a “beautiful walk through Portugal” and turned into a full-blown endurance event. My feet have filed a formal complaint. My legs are no longer speaking to me. And I’m pretty sure my backpack gained weight, I’m checking for Rocks to make sure Sorg’s didn’t slip some in.

There were moments where I thought, this is amazing….and then my feet would remind me that they aren’t happy with this situation.

But… we did it.

Somehow, step by step, mile after mile, we got here. No Uber bailout today. Just grit, stubbornness, and maybe a little bit of “wow, this is incredible”.

Right now, settled in to our guest house (29 euro each) the priorities are simple:
Shower. Food. Pack for tomorrow. AND share some Portuguese wine. —don’t forget washing clothes….Clothes on the line and our washing machine was the bidet (not saying who, but clearly not my decision—but an engineering repurpose of an already present piece of equipment)—-we have clearly known each other too long

Tomorrow?
In all seriousness (I won’t speak for the Sorg’s), this is a challenge—and so worth it. Ask me in 10 days and I may have a different answer, but tonight I’m going with that. I’m so glad I decided to make this journey.

This I know, We hope you enjoy our photos.

  1. Just a thought maybe take a day off and rest your ankle . You have plenty of days correct to sacrifice 1 day ?
