Henry Ford

A quote from Henry Ford seems appropriate for the Camino:

“Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t — you’re right.”

It fits the Camino in a lot of ways. My body matters, what I have done to prepare matters, weather certainly matters… but I am convinced that my mindset drives the outcome….it seems to be a microcosm of how I have chosen to live every day life.

The moment I decide “I can’t do another hill”, the hill wins before my legs even try….. when I tell myself “just keep moving”, somehow my body finds a way.

On the Camino, mindset becomes a huge part of the day’s accomplishments.

Whether I say I can or can’t, I am always right.

The trail seems to listen carefully to the story I tell myself.  There are days when announcing success is not related to how long it took, or how far the travel — success is simply refusing to quit.

Somewhere between sore feet, exhaustion, hunger, rain, and self doubt, I have learned that the voice in my head determines the outcome of my day.  I can either move forward… or stop. So far, stopping is not an option.

  1. Keep a strong mind. Don’t think about the pain. Think about the finish line. I know you can do it. You have to do it. You won’t be satisfied if you don’t.
