Hiking the Canyon

How do I prepare for this type of journey?

Physically, the answer seems simple: walk. Add a little strength training. Move my body with intention.
In reality, it’s been more complicated.

I’ve always had a tendency to procrastinate. The tickets were booked six months ago, and still, I often chose to stay home with my two sweet little dogs instead of heading out to train. To be fair, they’re very convincing. And the excuses came easily—too busy, too tired, tomorrow will be better.

Now, with two months to go, something has shifted. I’ve finally begun.

My body, however, seems a bit surprised by this decision. It’s responding in its own way—aches and pains appearing where there were none before. My back has opinions. My hips are weighing in. It’s a steady reminder that 70 is not far off.

Still, this is part of the preparation too: listening, adjusting, learning patience. Showing up anyway. Letting my body catch up to my decision.

And so I walk. I stretch. I strengthen. I keep going—one day, one step at a time.
