Lisbon Day 2

Lisbon, I’m struggling with the words to capture such a delightful city.… it is day 2, and I still don’t quite have the words. It is a place to relax quietly, and determine the pace of the day.

It unfolds its city treasures slowly—through steep hills that remind you of your years. The day allowed for wandering through narrow streets where getting lost seemed more like a plan than a mistake, and the quiet moments/thoughts made me think that this is exactly where we are supposed to be.

Yesterday felt a bit like survival—airplane sleep, figuring out immigration and the airport, navigating locations for the correct pickup site, dragging luggage up more stairs than we care to admit. But today? Today, after much needed sleep, the opportunity was there to slow down and notice things.

The tiles on the buildings—each one beautiful, representing a piece of history. The sound of the trams echoing through the streets, warning us to pay attention. The way the light hits the river at the end of the day today, as we walked to the market to pick up dinner—bread, cheese and Pastils. Lisbon doesn’t require a loud presentation to recognize how special it is. It whispers…..and that whisper is exactly what we need to ease into the Camino.

I came here thinking about the Camino—wondering if I’m ready, if I’ve prepared enough, if my body will cooperate. Lisbon is the beginning of that internal conversation. A nudge that requires us to slow down, pay attention and ‘trust the process’.
